In this video I take a deeper dive into diabetes and answer a listener’s question, what is double-diabetes?

The clinical model of diabetes is a disease of blood sugar control. In reality it’s a disease of insulin. Whether this is from the beta cells not making insulin in the type-1 diabetes, or the muscle and other cells becoming resistant to insulin in the type-2 diabetic.

In both cases insulin is the problem. We really miss an opportunity for early diagnosis in type-2 diabetes because of the focus on blood sugars. Double-diabetes is when a type-1 diabetic is taking so much insulin, they become insulin resistant and develop type-2 diabetes.
