[INTERVIEW] An interview with Theresa Wright with Susan Birch, The Health Detective – Nutrition, sugar addiction

Today, I talked about nutrition and sugar addiction with Theresa Wright. Theresa has been named one of Today’s Dietician Magazine’s “10 Incredible Registered Dieticians Who are Making a Difference”. She has been a pioneer in the field of food addiction.

She holds BS and MS degrees in Nutrition Science from Drexel University. She is a registered Dietician and Dietitian-Nutritionist.

Theresa Wright, MS, RD, LDN, is a dietitian, nutritionist, and pioneer in the emerging field of food addiction. She is nationally recognised for her innovative approach to nutrition counselling for treating food and eating issues.

She co-wrote the chapter “From the Front Lines” on food addiction symptoms for the first comprehensive collection of academic literature on food addiction. (Food and Addiction: A Comprehensive Handbook, edited by Kelly Brownell and Mark S. Gold). She has co-authored several other professional articles. Because of her expertise in treating addictive and compulsive eating disorders, Theresa was invited to write an appendix to the Overeaters Anonymous “Beloved Brown Book” and to assist with the creation of “Dignity of Choice”. Along with writing for professional publications, Theresa has created “Your Personal Food Plan Guide” for her clients and three volumes of “Delicious Recovery” cookbooks.

Theresa and I talked about food addiction, trauma and mindset. And how these often intersect and paralyse people from making change, even when they want to.

Theresa shares her fascinating story and how she got into studying and working in nutrition. This episode has some real gems that reflect Theresa’s lifelong work in this area.
